The two steamers Casca and Whitehorse traveled the Yukon River from around 1901 to 1955. This drawing was done by Dale Brown a year or so before they were destroyed by fire in 1974 on the banks of the river at the town of Whitehorse in the Yukon. A fire was started by someone camping out inside one of the boats which quickly spread to the other thus erasing this part of gold rush history.

The Columbia in Haines
The Columbia in Haines
24x30 Oil
At the crack of dawn in the summer of 1978 Steve Black and I arrived in Haines, Alaska ready for the long drive to Fairbanks. I shot photos of the Columbia which I later that year used in painting this painting. While practicing songs on deck on the trip north we met Bill Chace an Air Force officer from Eielson AFB. It was he that helped line us up with our first paying gig at the officer's club a few months later.
I drew this portrait of us for a promo poster that we used while playing at various music gigs around Fairbanks over the next couple of years.
